It started with two mates and an opportunity.
When the Kawerau Mill closed, Garry Cole and Dave Jones found themselves looking at what came next. Rather than leaving town to find work elsewhere, they decided to create something of their own.
On 13 August 2007, Jones & Cole Electrical officially began.
What started as two experienced electricians backing each other has grown into a business that has worked across homes, local businesses and major industrial sites throughout the area.
But the part of the story worth telling isn’t just the work they’ve done. From the beginning, Garry and Dave believed in giving people an opportunity. Apprentices have been trained, skills have been passed on and young electricians have been given the chance to build careers of their own.
Today, Garry has stepped back into retirement, but the values the business was built on remain: do good work, look after people, support the community and give the next generation a chance.

Passing it on
Creating opportunities has always been part of Jones & Cole.
From the beginning, training apprentices and passing on practical knowledge has been an important part of the business. Over the years, apprentices have learned their trade alongside experienced electricians, building the skills and confidence to become tradespeople themselves.
Te Maikoha was Garry’s last apprentice before Garry retired. Today, he’s a qualified tradesman helping train the apprentices coming through behind him.
We’re proud to see that knowledge and experience passed from one generation to the next, helping young people build skills, confidence and careers of their own.

The business has grown, but the way we work hasn’t changed.
Jones & Cole is still a local Kawerau business built around practical experience, good workmanship and looking after the people we work for.
Today, our team works across residential, commercial and industrial projects, from everyday repairs and upgrades through to complex industrial work.
Whatever the job, the approach is the same — turn up, do the job properly and stand behind our work.
